This magnificent choral setting by J. Michael Thompson was originally commissioned for the visit of Pope John Paul II to St. Joseph Seminary in Dunwoodie, New York. Quite an honor! Michael has set the Magnificat canticle text (Luke 1) from The Book of Common Prayer, adeptly alternating verses between the unison chant of Tone VIIIg and metered four-part choral statements. The assembly can easily be integrated into the simple and consistent chant verses. Michael's setting will be favorably received by directors looking to proclaim this honored text in a vibrant choral setting.
