In this lovely piece, though stanza one is clearly focused on the Nativity, the other three stanzas which speak of the birth, death, and resurrection of Christ in the larger context of salvation history, make this hymn much more expansive in scope. While appropriate for Christmas and Epiphany, this hymn might also find a home during Passiontide, thus highlighting connections between Incarnation and Redemption themes.
Topic:  Cross; Eternal Life; Holy Family; Incarnation; Love of God for Us; Passion; Presentation of the Lord; Redemption; Salvation
Liturgical Season:  Christmas; Epiphany; Triduum
Rites and Devotion:  The Way of the Cross or Stations of the Cross
