Music Submissions
Guidelines
To ensure that your submission will move efficiently through the review process, we urge you to follow these guidelines.Musical/Textual Content
Texts that present the scriptures and Christian doctrine in a fresh manner, especially those that reflect Roman Catholic theology, are encouraged. Certain texts (Psalm 23, the Lord's Prayer, the Ave Maria) already have many settings, resulting in less need for those texts. Those texts that have fewer musical settings have a greater potential to catch the eye and ear of the review board. It is our experience that musical settings of these texts also tend to be more favorably received by churches. Pieces that incorporate copyrighted music from other publishers will not be reviewed.Preparing Your Manuscript for Submission
- Please limit the number of pieces in a single submission to a reasonable amount; we suggest no more than five pieces.
- Send a photocopy of your manuscript, not the original.
- Manuscripts must be legible. Illegible manuscripts will not be reviewed.
- Manuscripts should be written in music notation with lyrics, chord symbols, or keyboard accompaniment.
- Leadsheets with chord symbols are acceptable for submission.
- In vocal scores, careful alignment of syllables to notes is appreciated.
- Be sure to indicate metronome or tempo markings, as well as style markings on the manuscript.
- Please proofread your manuscript before submitting it, paying careful attention to capitalization, punctuation, spelling, and hyphenation.
- Be sure that all texts used are grammatically sound.
- For your own protection, your manuscript should carry a copyright notice.
- A valid copyright notice, placed on the first page of the manuscript, consists of the symbol © (or the word copyright), the year, and the name of the copyright owner.
Recordings
Though not necessary, a recording allows us to hear what you had in mind, especially on more complex pieces. A recording may be sent along with but not in place of the written manuscript. The recording need not be studio quality. Note that your recording will not be returned unless you have requested its return in your cover letter.Mailing
