Bread of Heaven
An active pastoral musician in the Houston area, Kathleen returned to Sam Houston State University in the fall of 2010 as an accompanist, in addition to her demanding schedule as a guest musician in parishes throughout the archdiocese, local events such as UIL contests and her work as a liturgical composer. Having begun her ministry as a pastoral musician at the age of 14, when she founded a parish youth folk choir, and began directing, accompanying, arranging and composing for the group, Kathleen brings over 30 years of multifaceted experience to her present day ministry. However, it wasn’t until her full time church work presented a need for immediate access to choral music, that she began composing seriously for the liturgy.
Having served as classroom music teacher and choir director on both elementary and secondary levels, private piano teacher, vocal coach, cantor, accompanist, and parish music/ liturgy director in churches and schools throughout the Houston area, Kathleen has an extensive background working in diverse parish and classroom settings, and with musicians, choirs and ensembles of all ages, skill levels, and styles. She combines her professional experience and knowledge with a practical teaching style and a love for music and liturgy that inspires those she is working with.
Kathleen has served as Director of the NPM Galveston-Houston Chapter since 2005, and also serves on the National Council of Chapters for NPM. In 2009 she completed NPM's DMMD Certification with a concentration in choral conducting. She has been the presenter /clinician for numerous workshops on liturgical music ministry. She is also a member of the Archdiocesan Choir of Galveston-Houston and has sung with The Woodlands Symphony Chorus as well.
Kathleen is also an active member of a number of other professional organizations, including American Choral Directors, Texas Choral Directors, Texas Music Educators, Society of Composers, Choristers Guild, and Mu Phi Epsilon to name a few. Kathleen lives in The Woodlands, Texas, has two beautiful daughters, and can be found enjoying the outdoors, swimming, antiquing, reading, writing, and gardening in her free time.
