The Emerald Collection: 35 Years of the Univeristy of Notre Dame Folk Choir vinyl album

For the first time in many years, WLP is releasing the very best of the Notre Dame Folk Choir on Vinyl!

The Notre Dame Folk Choir began singing during a time of great changes in the liturgy. The group was founded by Director Steve Warner in 1980, with Karen Schneider Kirner beginning her role as Associate Director in 1997. Since its start, the choir has moved far beyond the conventional definition of a "folk group." Today, the choir consists of more than four dozen men and women's voices along with flute, organ, violins, guitar, string bass, Celtic harp, cello, and bodhran (Irish drum). On special occasions during the liturgical year, a brass contingent adds another dimension to their praise. The choir has successfully achieved a remarkable synthesis of organ and guitar technique, bridging the gap between contemporary compositions of a post-Vatican II church community and the rich expression of traditional choral repertoire.

The Notre Dame Folk Choir's choral library is enhanced by music from Ireland, France, and Mexico, and has even included selections in Russian and Mandarin Chinese. Choral music from the African continent, exuberantly performed in four-part harmony and accompanied by an array of percussion instruments, is featured prominently in their repertoire.
Starting in the mid-1980's, the Notre Dame Folk Choir began to make national and international tours as a part of its regular ministry. All of these tours form part of an important service of collaboration with parishes and communities around the world.
This Emerald Collection album celebrates 35 years of the Notre Dame Folk Choir's ministry, past, present and future. Listen and experience a taste of who the Folk Choir is and you'll find yourself witnessing the love, grace, and true happiness God calls us all to share. Enjoy!

"My passion is to not only provide music for worship, but music that sings of the true witness of my experience of Christ in my life, that leads me to the table in faith. His writing style includes contemporary rock, pop, and Latin rhythms, and his compositions give new life to traditional pieces from chant and classical genres.

Mikey Needleman

Raised in Kansas City, Kansas, Mikey Needleman began playing and writing music at the age of 12 after his father gave him a guitar and a few pointers. From there, he taught himself every instrument he could get his hands on. By the time he was in high school, Mikey had been in countless bands but didn't start really singing until his later years of high school, when he began to lead praise and worship from time to time at local youth groups, retreats, and churches. Mikey then discovered the power of musical performance when he found a way to pay for college by performing around campus several times a week, developing a diehard fan-base. As his solo act grew, so did his desire to form a band.

The Mikey Needleman Band was formed in 2006. Begun as a three-piece, MNB's energy and passion gave live performances an exciting edge in the local scene. After graduation, Mikey moved back to Kansas City and became the youth minister at his home parish, where he started a Sunday evening contemporary Mass. The band continued to expand and recorded an EP in 2008 called "Waiting for You," and began playing hundreds of shows a year. In 2011, Mikey recorded "All for You," a six-song worship record filled with anthemic melodies and huge pop-rock hooks. The four-piece Mikey Needleman Band is now a staple in the Midwest music scene, playing youth rallies, Masses, retreats, summer camps, weddings, and just about every other setting where live music is needed.

In 2016, Mike served as the music director for the National Religious Vocation Conference convocation in Overland Park, KS. Currently, he serves as the Worship Director for St. John Paul II Catholic Parish  Olathe, Kansas in addition to his solo gigs and full band concerts every week.

Danielle Rose

Danielle Rose is a 2002 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where she received undergraduate degrees in music and theology. At the age of 17, she traveled to Delhi, India to volunteer with Mother Teresa's Missionaries of Charity. This experience gave her a desire to serve the poorest of the poor by offering her gift of music as a means of alleviating the spiritual poverty of America. Her debut album, Defining Beauty, was released in 2001 by World Library Publications.

After graduating from Notre Dame, Danielle Rose began traveling the globe as a music missionary in order to spread the Gospel through a joyful witness of story and song. Whether she was ministering to one million people at World Youth Day in Toronto, or twenty teenagers in her hometown of Duluth, Minnesota, Danielle encouraged and challenged every soul to form a relationship with the Eucharistic Presence of Jesus through the heart of Mary.

In 2004, Danielle received the personal blessing of Pope John Paul II when she presented him with her second album, Mysteries, a collection of meditations upon the twenty mysteries of the rosary. She promised the Holy Father, ?I am your messenger to the young people to take up the rosary once again.?

She received a Unity Award from the United Catholic Music and Video Association (UCMVA) as Female Vocalist of the Year in 2005. One year later she recorded her third album, I Thirst, a musical tribute to the life and work of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta.

In August 2007, Danielle accepted Jesus? invitation to enter the convent to discern a religious vocation. Immediately before her entrance, Danielle recorded her fourth album, Pursue Me, which describes the journey of accepting the call to discernment. After more than two years of formation in the convent (it?s a six to ten-year process of discernment before final vows), Danielle came to a successful discernment with her community: the Lord was calling her to follow Him in a different way.

Seeking at every turn only to heed His voice and to do His will, Danielle left the convent in November 2009. This journey of surrender and obedience taught her more deeply than ever that loving God and doing His will is more important than anything else. With this new understanding, Danielle has joyfully accepted Jesus? invitation to continue sharing His Song for the glory of God and the salvation of souls.   Listen to Danielle's February / 2011 podcast interview with Deacon Tom and Dee Fox of Catholic Vitamins: Catholic Vitamin O Obedience

Danielle Rose's music is available for purchase online at itunesamazon, and here on WLP's site.  Or, call 1-800-566-6150.
